Get spooky from head to toe.
I love Halloween. I love Halloween so much, in fact, that I'm always excited about it months ahead of time. I burn pumpkin scented candles all year round. I have a shelf full of fake blood. Last year, Witchy Woman was my most-played song on Spotify.
As you might expect, I own some Halloween-appropriate clothing and accessories. Among my collection are several pairs of Halloween-themed socks. If you, like me, are a year-round Halloween lover, then I would advise that you, like me, purchase yourself a pair of socks that celebrates the spooky season.
You may be asking: What's so special about socks? Why not a Halloween shirt or dress or sweater? I hear you – and I love other spooky items of clothing as well – but Halloween socks have a special place in my heart. The thing about socks is that most of the time, nobody sees them. You don't have to wear a specific pair of socks to go to school, or work, or your favourite restaurant. Socks are, for the most part, ungoverned – and this makes them the perfect way to bring a little bit of secret self expression into outfits that otherwise have to look a certain way.
Say it's a Wednesday morning in mid-March, and you have to give a big presentation and you're nervous. Maybe you want a sort of good-luck-charm – or maybe you don't believe in good luck charms, but you just want a little pick-me-up. Some bright spot of positivity in your day. There's rules around how you can do your hair and makeup and what you can wear – but there's no rule against putting on your favourite pair of socks, as long as you wear shoes that cover them up.
Studies have shown that what you wear can impact how you think and feel, so if there's a part of your wardrobe you have control over, you may as well take it. Putting on your favourite pair of socks, even if nobody else sees them, could put you in a good mood for the rest of the day.
So then, why spooky socks specifically? Well, for me, they're a way to bring the joy and peace I feel around Halloween into my day even when it's not actually Halloween time. Incorporating a reminder of my favourite holiday into my outfit can make me feel like celebrating even on a perfectly ordinary day. Plus, there are just so many great pairs of Halloween socks out there.
